The Hispanic/Latino Center is at your service.

history of the hispanic/latino center

In September 1998, a group of Hispanic professionals met to discuss issues and problems of interest to the Hispanic/Latino community in our area. They decided that there were so many needs of the Hispanic population that they formed a nonprofit organization, the Hispanic/Latino Center, Inc., to help address them.

Since then, with the help of volunteers the Hispanic/Latino Center has organized and participated in many projects directed towards improving the quality of life of the public in general, and of the Hispanic population in particular. The Center has collaborated with different organizations such as Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville Human Relations Commission, Minority Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina Center for Justice, El Pueblo, Care Clinic, Women's Center of Fayetteville, Fayetteville Parks and Recreation, Cape Fear Valley Hospital, and the U.S. Census Bureau, among others.

Thanks to these numerous projects, various members of the Center have been recognized as leaders of the Hispanic community at the local and state level.

FUTURE PROJECTS

Future projects of the Center include educating Hispanic parents about children's rights and available state and federal programs; promoting organizations similar to ours in adjacent counties; organizing Spanish-language learning programs; organizing preventive medicine programs; increasing the availability of interpreters in judicial courts; identifying educational scholarships at different levels; promoting the different Spanish cultures; and continuing a collaboration with various state and local organizations.
